Most recent testimonial (Received October 23, 2023)
This letter is long overdue. Twelve years ago, during my senior year of high school, I had the privilege of meeting and being mentored by Darryl Oshiro. The mentorship was part of my senior project assignment, wherein I was tasked with finding a mentor to guide me in developing the mindset of an elite athlete—both mentally and physically.
My time spent with Daryl not only influenced my performance in high school athletics but also left an incredible mark on my entire life with any performance-based challenges.
With his guidance, I learned to perform under pressure, and my mental state was no longer an obstacle to my success. My senior year, I achieved higher placements and even made it to the state tournament. Thanks to Darryl, I was able to transform myself into a confident and elite athlete, leaving behind a mindset I once considered 'weak.' Since my time in high school athletics, I have applied the same teachings and principles in my career, marriage, church and more. I am grateful to have been taught truths from Darryl that compound throughout my life.
I truly believe Darryl was a hidden gem in my life, placed on my path for a reason by God. I wholeheartedly recommend anyone looking to elevate their game to reach out to him. He will forever be one of the best mentors I have received in my life. He possesses a unique gift for instilling heightened awareness, positive focus, and unstoppable mental strength.
Thank you brother, for the transformative work you did. I apologize for the delay in sharing my testimonial.

"Darryl Oshiro has introduced the concept of positive focus and some other basic ideas to our team and helped us to improve our mental performance. As an athlete I always had an idea how my mental mindset should be on the court and in the practice gym, but just by giving me a few fundamental concepts Darryl made it for me much more clear on what I have to focus, then any of my coaches ever did. The help you will receive from him will not only help you to play at a higher level in your athletic career, but also teaches you some skills that can be applied in many different fields in your life."
-Jonas Umlauft (University of Hawaii Student-Athlete)
"Soon after Darryl started working with our team, he introduced me to the relaxation CD. I had a hard time sustaining my energy throughout the day. Since practice is in the afternoon and my day often starts early, I would come to the afternoon practice tired and unable to perform at the level I wanted to and was expected to from my coaches, teammates and most of all myself. At the same time I was an on-call dinner server. For some reason I had a harder time falling asleep on the days I worked. The only reason I gave the relaxation CD a try was because a person who has helped me out in the past and had my respect, recommended it to me. Initially I used it to fall asleep at night. First couple of times I had to play it twice for it to work, however it worked and I was able to fall asleep faster. Darryl also suggested that I listen to the CD during the day, sometime before practice for it to reenergize me. Since it is a short track, I was able to easily fit into my schedule. This is how my “power naps” started. I would find a really comfortable couch or bed to lie down and set up an alarm to not oversleep. Now, I have been using it for about a year now and can use it almost everywhere without needing an alarm. Often, I take the bus straight from work to practice and listen to the CD during the ride. Once the 13-minute track is done, I automatically wake up. I use this power nap method before nearly every practice and game. It gets me out of the slump and ready for the next challenge of the day. I truly believe it helps me regain my energy and I recommend it to anyone who wants to feel more rested and focused."

Golf
"My name is Ka' ili Britos, and I play for the Women's Golf team here at UH. At the end of my fall season this past year, I had not performed to the best of my ability. While my technique was fine, my mental game was seriously suffering. Although I was aware of the mental workshops available occasionally during the semester, my busy schedule made it hard for me to participate. After some serious thinking, I decided to get in touch with him on an individual level so that he could assess and help me with my golf game. I set aside a time to meet him and he graciously helped me. When I came back for the spring season, I had worked with Darryl a few times and was ready to put his help to the test. My overall scoring average between the fall and the spring season had improved by 5 whole strokes. In just a few months, Darryl helped me overcome some of the mental troubles I experienced in my sport and helped me to be successful. His help led me to play some of the best golf I've played in a long time and also helped me to place second in the WAC Championships this year as well as earn Freshman of the Year. His passion, eagerness to help and intellect for the mental aspect of sports has been a valuable asset to my success. He was available and eager to help me whether by email or phone while I was on a road trip or even in person when I was back home. I boldly credit Darryl with being one of my most important sources of help. He has helped me overcome the majority of my fears as an athlete and person. I value his help and am very grateful of his redirection and help."

-Rance (Junior Golfer, Age 15)
“I am so grateful for your insights, guidance and experience. Before taking your 4 month Golf Psychology program my game was stagnant and laagering in the low to mid 80’s. I finally broke through into the high 70’s by applying the techniques and thought skills that I learned in your teachings. My focus is now sharper than ever and I feel more relaxed on the course than I ever have. If I make a mistake, I am able to let it go and move on immediately. You have really helped me get my game on track and take it to the next level. Thank you!"
-Keith Rose, Student (Golf Academy of America, Hawaii Campus)
"Positive Focus was the one thing I needed for my game. I had the swing grooved, my short game was solid, yet I still couldn't post good scores. Darryl first showed me how powerful the mind was, and how a single thought or feeling can throw you off track. I learned how to control those things and also learned relaxation techniques which are very nice to have when you are on the first tee of the first day during a big tournament. I credit Darryl with helping me more than any PGA Professional has or could."
-Brad Jones (Student of Golf Academy of America, Hawaii Campus)
Tennis

Darryl is not just a good communicator or mental toughness coach, his a great human being and a good teacher. He helped me to be at peace with myself and to deal better with the challenge that comes on and off the tennis courts. May Allah bless you for that Darryl."

Baseball
"I would like to personally thank Darryl for his help and guidance during this past baseball season. Without his support I don't think that I could have performed at the level that I did. I was able to have my best season offensively and actually lead the team in some categories. I know that he helped some of my teammates and it showed in their improved performances too. Darryl was able to keep me focused during the hectic and chaotic season. Life threw me a lot of curveballs, but with Darryl's help I was able to pull through. Thank you very much."

"Positive Focus has helped me think differently about how I approach things. I now know that there are some things in life that you just can't control (i.e. weather, other people's actions, etc) and I can't let them affect me negatively. I just have to adjust to it. The most important thing that I learned from the Positive Focus workshop is that the first step to success is preparation. If you want something you have to prepare for it. For a game, you have to practice, get rest, go through visualizations of yourself succeeding. Overall Positive Focus has made me a much mentally stronger individual."
-Dustin Tagawa, Baseball player (15)

“Darryl has worked with both of my sons in baseball mental skills. Both boys have worked with Darryl on numerous occasions and have incorporated the mental skills learned into their baseball training. One son has excelled at pitching (6-0 as a sophomore pitcher and 5-0 as a junior pitcher) not because of a fastball but because of his control of the game and mind. The other son excels at hitting taking some basic concepts from Darryl and using it when he steps up to the plate. I truly believe that anyone wanting to take their sport to the next level needs some kind of mental training program. I would highly recommend Darryl Oshiro to anyone wanting to achieve success in sports.
I am a strong believer that to succeed in any sport whether it is baseball, canoe paddling, tennis, etc, you have to be mentally strong. Darryl Oshiro's Positive Focus workshops really work. My two sons have attended his sessions and have greatly succeeded during the baseball seasons. My older boy may not throw 90mph, but he has become confident to throw strikes and not let situations out of his control get into his head. He plays his game to his fullest potential. My younger boy, prior to working with Darryl, had a hard time throwing strikes as a pitcher. He walked a lot of batters and threw more balls than strikes. After Darryl's sessions, he improved tremendously in his strike to ball ratio and began striking out more batters than walking. Both of my boys pitching and hitting has improved tremendously also as I believe Darryl's last session on "the pressure is on the pitcher/batter" really sunk into both of them. I want to personally thank Darryl Oshiro for making himself available to my two boys and giving them that mental edge that most players don't possess."
-Darren Tagawa
"I am truly impressed with Darryl's deep understanding and application when it comes to the mental aspects of the game. As we are all aware, things don't always go as planned and life isn't always easy. The same is true for student athletes... The ability to stay positive, understand how to deal with success and failure, manage pressure and expectations, and balance activities, is a lot for a student athlete to handle. He has been working with my son for the past three years and since then; I have seen a strong improvement in my son's attitude and way of thinking. This strong change in thinking and outlook has allowed my son to achieve success in balancing college golf with a demanding education at Claremont McKenna. What stands out to me is that Darryl's methods yield long term results that extend beyond the golf course and into life. Darryl has also helped me understand how to be there for my son when he's on the golf course and how to be a better "golf parent". Sometimes parents can get in the way and take too deep an interest in their child's sporting engagements, Darryl has helped me understand and achieve this necessary balance. I trust Darryl and would strongly recommend him to anyone."
-Leslie Fujieki
"Positive Focus on and off the field.........baseball, basketball, golf, in the classroom or in our daily lives.....it's helped the whole family in so many ways. As parents we have committed ourselves to build a solid foundation for our children and Darryl Oshiro's Positive Focus philosophy is definitely a part of that commitment."
-Cynthia and Henry Yanabu
"Coach Darryl is an amazing personal development coach. His energy level is high, very positive and encouraging. His program for kids is awesome. He works with my 2 boys and they love Darryl. I can tell they enjoy being around him and they even do the homework assignments he gives. I recommend him highly if you want to improve your level of certainty and focus."
